Dear Dan,
We hope you’re all still feeling inspired after our time together at the Educating Nurses: A Radical Transformation Conference. It was a truly enriching experience, and we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the key takeaways that emerged during our discussions.
Contextualizing Everything to the Patient As nurse educators, it’s crucial that we consistently frame all of our teaching in the context of the patient experience using authentic cases. This means emphasizing how the knowledge and skills students acquire directly translate to better patient outcomes. By focusing on real-world application, we ensure our students are prepared to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare landscape.
Fostering Curiosity and Engagement in Our Students One of the most profound takeaways was the need for students to be genuinely curious and engaged in their learning. But curiosity alone isn’t enough—it’s our responsibility as educators to nurture and sustain that curiosity. This requires creating an environment where students are inspired to ask questions, seek understanding, and apply their knowledge to clinical practice.
Bridging the Academic-Practice Gap Despite decades of conversation, the gap between academia and clinical practice remains a significant challenge. It’s clear that we must utilize evidence-based active learning strategies like unfolding cases to transform our teaching once and for all to ensure that our students are graduating with the skills and insights they need to thrive in the real world.

Tools of Transformation
In addition, we want to share a valuable resource that provides time-saving tools to transform the way you teach! Our Think Like A Nurse Membership offers individuals and programs over 300 unfolding case studies that contextualize content to develop the essential clinical judgment skills for practice.
These innovative case studies cover everything from basic skills and physical assessment to leadership challenges and ethical dilemmas, each framed within the patient’s experience. They use open-ended questions based on Tanner’s Clinical Judgment Model to authentically connect classroom learning to patient care.

and show you how they can prepare your students for practice.
Thank you once again for your dedication to the future of nursing education. We look forward to continuing the conversation and supporting your efforts as we work together to bridge the academic-practice gap by transforming how nursing is taught!
Warm regards,
